JUPITER, Fla. - Roger Dean Stadium and the Jupiter Hammerheads are proud to announce that third baseman Brian Anderson and right-handed starter Luis Castillo have been named as the organization's Player and Pitcher of the Year. The Miami Marlins' President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill announced the decision earlier this morning.

Anderson appeared in 49 games for the Hammerheads before earning a promotion to Double-A Jacksonville on May 30. He led the Hammerheads in almost every single hitting category, .302 batting-average, .377 on-base percentage and slugging percentage .440 with 25 RBI, earning Florida State League Midseason All-Star honors. Anderson excelled in every situation and was rock solid at third base committing just five errors in 409.1 innings this season. A fielding percentage of 96.9%.

He appeared in 86 games for the Suns after his promotion, hitting eight home runs and driving in 40. He was named the Southern League Player of the Week of August 21. Anderson, 23, was a third-round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arkansas. He set career highs in home runs (11) and RBI (65) this season.

Castillo was selected as the Pitcher of the Year in the Florida State League after he went 8-4 with a 2.07 ERA in his 23 games with the Hammerheads during the course of the 2016 season. This was the third such honor for Castillo who has also been named to the Midseason and Postseason All-Star Team.

Castillo is just 23 years old and was acquired via-trade with the San Francisco Giants in 2014. He was the top statistically ranked pitcher in the Florida State League at the time of his departure for Double-A Jacksonville in late August. Castillo reached a season high eight strikeouts on July 3rd at Fort Myers and continually confused opponents with his velocity and movement, touching 101 miles per hour on his fastball and working into the low 80's on his off-speed including a nasty slider.

Both Anderson and Castillo contributed to the Hammerheads success this season, which saw them finish 68-69 on the season and two and a half (2.5) games back on St. Lucie in the Florida State League second half playoff standings.
