Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Lansing's Tom Robson tossed six strong innings as the Lugnuts topped the Dayton Dragons 3-1 on Wednesday night, completing a doubleheader sweep at Fifth Third Field. The losses dropped the first place Dragons to 16-9 on the season. They lead second place Great Lakes by one and one-half games in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League.

Dayton starting pitcher Nick Travieso (3-1) tossed the first complete game for the Dragons since 2011 but suffered the loss in game two. He went seven innings and allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Dragons got their run in the bottom of the first after Lansing had scored an unearned run in the top of the inning. Jeff Gelalich reached on a bunt single, went to second on a ground out, stole third, and scored on Phillip Ervin's sacrifice fly. But Lansing jumped back ahead with two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead and shutout the Dragons the rest of the way.

The Dragons had just four hits in game two. Gelalich was 2 for 4.

Dragons outfielder Sebastian Elizalde left the game for a pinch runner after he delivered a base hit in the fourth inning. Elizalde suffered what appeared to be a knee injury and could not put any weight on the injured area as he was helped off the field. No further information was immediately available.

In the first game, which began on Tuesday night but was suspended by rain in the fourth inning, Lansing's Derrick Loveless delivered a tie-breaking RBI single in the fifth and D.J. Davis drilled a two-run home run in the sixth as the Lugnuts topped the Dragons 7-5. Lansing's Justin Atkinson went 5 for 5 in the game. The Dayton loss snapped their five-game winning streak.

In game one, Dragons catcher Brandon Dailey hit a solo home run, walked twice, and scored three runs to lead a seven-hit attack. Daniel Mateo added a double and single.

The Dragons trailed 4-0 in the second inning but battled back to tie the game at 4-4 in the fourth before Lansing pulled ahead again. Dragons reliever Zack Weiss (1-1) allowed three runs in three innings of work to take the loss. Weiss had not surrendered a run in 13 innings over seven relief appearances on the season entering the game.

The Dragons host Lansing again on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in the last game of the four-game series at Fifth Third Field. Cincinnati Reds all-star left-hander Aroldis Chapman is expected to start for Dayton on a Major League injury rehabilitation assignment. Lansing will counter with Alberto Tirado (0-0, 3.60).

All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at wone.com and through the Dragons Mobile App.

Notes: The Dragons have been swept in both doubleheaders they have played this season. They are 16-5 in single games.
