Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (26-25; 62-58) wiped out an early deficit with 10 unanswered runs, doubling up the South Bend Silver Hawks (20-30; 50-68), 10-5, on Wednesday evening on Jackson Field.

Making his first start for the Lugnuts since June 1st, left fielder Brad McElroy went 4-for-5 with a go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning to cap a comeback from 4-0 down.

Justin Jackson and K.C. Hobson each scored three runs and Hobson added a two-run homer in an offensive barrage against South Bend starter Andrew Wolcott and reliever Brad Gemberling. Lansing batters went 9-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

Wolcott (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Lansing starter Egan Smith (6-2) allowed two runs in each of the first two innings, but settled down to finish five frames with five strikeouts to get the victory.

With West Michigan losing in Fort Wayne, the win pulled the Lugs even with the Whitecaps for the Eastern Division's final playoff spot.

The middle affair in the three-game series will take place on a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday, Lansing right-hander Dave Sever (5-8, 4.45) opposing South Bend left-hander Tyler Skaggs (8-4, 3.61).
