Lugnuts Hold Off Rattlers

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were in good position despite being down 4-2 late in game two of their doubleheader with the Lansing Lugnuts Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field. Wisconsin loaded the bases with no outs in bottom of the sixth. But, Lansing closer Steve Turnbull got out of the jam and went on to save the 4-2 win for the Lugnuts to split the twinbill.
The Lugnuts (46-43 overall, 10-10 second half) took the lead without the benefit of a hit in the top of the first inning. Kenny Wilson drew a leadoff walk to start the game. A balk by Rattlers starting pitcher Nick Bucci moved Wilson to second. Then, Eric Eiland dropped a sacrifice bunt to get Wilson to third. Sean Ochinko got the run home with a sacrifice fly to left.
Lansing added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Brad Glenn hit a two-run homer to the scoreboard in left-center and the Lugnuts went up 3-0.
Wilson made it 4-0 with a two-out, RBI double in the top of the fifth.
Michael Marseco cut that four-run deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rattlers shortstop drove a two-out, two-run triple to right-center to get Wisconsin (36-52, 10-10) to within 4-2.
The Rattlers made it very interesting in the bottom of the sixth. Lansing starting pitcher Egan Smith struck out Scooter Gennett to start the inning, but a wild pitch allowed Gennett to reach. Kentrail Davis singled to put runners on first and second. That was all for Smith as the Lugnuts went to Turnbull.
Khris Davis make things very exciting when he reached on an error to load the bases with no outs.
However, Turnbull quieted the crowd and the Rattlers rally by striking out the next three batters to end the inning and keep the Lugnuts up 4-2.
Lansing's closer converted his twentieth save (in 21 opportunities) by setting down the Rattlers in order in the bottom of the seventh.
The series concludes on Friday night at 7:05pm. Damon Krestalude (2-4, 5.29) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Dave Sever (2-6, 4.65) is set to start for the Lugnuts.
