New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ -Thanks to a stellar performance by starter Jon Lucas, the New Jersey Jackals took game one of a three game series against the second place Rockland Boulders, 5-2 on Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Getting his second consecutive start in place of the injured Kyle Greenwalt, Jon Lucas gave the Boulders' hitters a tough time all game, going a season high six innings. He allowed only one hit and one unearned run, walking one while striking out three. In short he was dominating.

Jackals got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gaetano Giunta reached base on a Fielders' Choice and stole second base. Chris Curran slapped a double down the right field line, driving in Giunta to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead.

Rockland quickly tied the game in the top of the sixth inning.

Jaren Matthews led off the inning by reaching on an infield single, advancing to second base on a throwing error by Jeremy Barnes. Danny Bomback hit a groundball to second base to score Matthews.

The Jackals got the lead back in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Bryan Sabatella, the hero from Sunday afternoon's game, smoked a line drive into right field, which was misplayed by right fielder Jerod Edmondson.

Sabatella reached on a RBI single, scoring Barnes, and then scored on a wild pitch by pitcher Pat Moran.

The Boulders cut the lead to one, courtesy of a RBI single to right field by Nick DelGudice. With runners on first and third with two outs, Bryan Sabatella made an amazing over-the-shoulder catch to rob Jaren Matthews of extra bases and also robbed the Boulders from tying the game.

Boulders starter Pat Moran went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. The CanAm strikeout leader fanned six Jackals hitters.

New Jersey would tack on in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Nick Giarraputo reached on a two out walk, and Bryan Sabatella came up after and reached on a throwing error by Nick DelGudice, scoring Giarraputo.

Danny Rams continued to hit well with runners in scoring position and two out, driving in Sabatella with his RBI single to center field.

The Jackals bullpen would hold the lead for Jon Lucas.

Chad Rose worked in and out of trouble in the seventh inning, only allowing one run.

Tim Adleman was impressive in the eighth inning, striking out the side, only allowing one walk.

Keith Cantwell came in to close the ninth inning, allowing only one hit.

Chris Curran, Jose Cuevas, and Bryan Sabatella all had two hits for the Jackals, who had nine hits as a team.

The Jackals (19 -16) continue their three game series against the Rockland Boulders on Wednesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. Isaac Pavlik is scheduled to start for the Jackals.
