Charleston Lowgators News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 23) – The North Charleston Lowgators defeated the Huntsville Flight 88-80 on Saturday night. Sedric Webber poured in 27 points to lead the way for the home team.

The Lowgators took the lead midway through the first quarter and did not relinquish their advantage until 6:26 remaining in the fourth period. Huntsville crawled their way back from a 10 point deficit and took their first lead in the second half with a driving lay-up from Demetric Shaw.

Both teams battled back and forth until Charleston pulled away with a Corey Benjamin lay-up and three-pointer to give the Lowgators an 85-78 advantage with 49.6 seconds left. Benjamin had 23 points on the evening, shooting 10 for 14 from the field.

The Flight (3-1) would not get closer than five, as they suffered their first loss of the season.

Lowgators Coach Doug Marty was happy with his team’s resiliency, ”We were standing around on offense and let them get back into the game. We relied on the open court game, heart, and the will to win. Sedric (Webber) and Corey (Benjamin) also hit some big shots down the stretch.”

Flight Coach Ralph Lewis was not as thrilled with his team, “They wanted it more than we did. They were rolling on the floor and diving for loose balls.”

Demetric Shaw led a balanced scoring attack for the Flight with 15 points off the bench in 11 minutes. Mike Wilks added 14, while Brandon Williams chipped in with 13.

Huntsville will travel to Columbus on November 27th, while the Lowgators (4-1) host Fayetteville the same night.
