Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 21) The Charleston Lowgators defeated the short-handed Roanoke Dazzle 104-94 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Sunday evening. The victory pushed the Lowgators back into sole possession of first place, a half-game in front of the Asheville Altitude

Trailing 56-50 at halftime, the Lowgators (23-17) stormed ahead in the third quarter outscoring Roanoke (20-20) 31-11 in the period and never looked back. In the frame, Charleston shot 64% from the field, out-rebounded the Dazzle by 10 and blocked five shots, including four by Hiram Fuller. The Dazzle, who dressed eight players, only made three field goals in 21 attempts in the third quarter.

“We were looking for a good defensive effort after last night’s performance and we got one,” Lowgators coach Doug Marty said. “Shutting down a team for an entire quarter is not easy to do so I give our guys a lot of credit after we were down at the half.”

Tierre Brown scored eight of his team-high 22 points in the third quarter, while Ime Udoka added 21 points for the game. Karim Shabazz ripped down 13 rebounds and Hiram Fuller blocked six shots.

Roanoke coach Kent Davison said, “They came out with a lot of energy in the third quarter and we did not. They played with a lot of intensity and were able to get to the line 17 times. We are going to have to get healthy and get ready for the last six games.”

Josh Asselin played 46 minutes and had 22 points and eight rebounds to pace the Dazzle, who played without starters Marque Perry and Geoff Owens. Perry suffered an eye injury in practice on Friday and Owens hurt his back in Saturday’s game against Columbus. Curtis Staples chipped in with 17 points off the bench.

Charleston will travel to Asheville on Friday at 7:15 p.m. and Roanoke will play at Columbus the same day at 7:00 p.m.
