Louisville Holds Tides Down 4-1
April 25, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release
Henry Urrutia hit an RBI double, but three Louisville pitchers combined to hold Norfolk to six hits as the Bats bested the Tides 4-1 Monday night at Harbor Park.
Bats starter Tim Adleman (2-0) was terrific, as he blanked the Tides on three hits over seven strong innings. The 28-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out seven, facing just three batters over the minimum to help the Bats improve to 8-8 this season.
Tim Melville relieved Adleman and worked a scoreless eighth, but Norfolk rallied with a run in the ninth on Urrutia's opposite-field double to spoil the shutout bid. The run ended a stretch of 21 consecutive scoreless innings for the Tides, who have hit .253 as a team but have averaged just 3.4 runs per game this season.
Norfolk starter Nick Additon (1-2) took the tough-luck loss after yielding two runs on eight hits over six solid innings of work. He walked two and struck out four, but yielded single runs in the first and second innings to suffer his second defeat of the season. The only damage he surrendered came on a sacrifice fly by Jermaine Curtis and a solo home run by Kyle Waldrop - Waldrop's second in as many games.
Christian Walker had two singles and run scored in the setback, while L.J. Hoes had a single and an outfield assist as Norfolk dropped to 6-12 this season.
The two clubs wrap up their three-game set Tuesday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 6:35. Terry Doyle (0-1, 5.09) gets the start for Norfolk against left-hander Cody Reed (0-0, 3.86).
Prior to the Tides game, the Old Dominion Monarchs will host the University of Virginia Cavaliers in a 12:05 contest Tuesday at Harbor Park. All tickets for the collegiate game are general admission and can be purchased for $10 through ynottix.com or in person at Harbor Park.
Notes: Prior to Monday's game, the Orioles claimed RHP David Hale from Colorado and assigned him to Norfolk, while first baseman Joey Terdoslavich was transferred to Double-A Bowie. Hale will be activated to Norfolk's roster later this week...The Orioles activated RHP Kevin Gausman from the disabled list Tuesday, ending his Major League Rehab Assignment with Norfolk. To make room for Gausman on the roster, the Orioles optioned infielder Ryan Flaherty to the Tides...Trey Mancini, promoted from Bowie earlier Monday, went 0-for-4 in his Triple-A debut...Paul Janish went 0-for-2 with a walk, snapping his hitting streak at seven games.
