Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Center fielder Jay Bruce went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and three runs as Louisville posted a 6-4 win over Indianapolis Thursday evening at Victory Field.

The Bats improve to 14-7 overall and 9-4 on the road, while the Indians drop to 12-9 overall and 7-4 at home.

Bruce, who is regarded by several publications as Minor League Baseball's top prospect, opened the fourth with a single to right and moved to second on a walk by 2B Andy Phillips. Then, after a double steal, both runners crossed the dish on a two-run single to right by 1B Kevin Barker.

Bruce clobbered his fourth roundtripper of the campaign in the sixth -- a solo shot to right center.

Louisville added three insurance runs in the eighth. Bruce led off with a double to center. Phillips followed with an RBI two bagger to right. 3B Adam Rosales then came up with a two-run double to center, making it 6-0.

Indianapolis made it a game with four runs in the bottom of the ninth. LF Kevin Thompson, RF Steve Pearce, 2B Matt Kata and SS Jason Bowers all scored when 10 men came to the plate in the Tribe's final at-bat, but Bats RHP Gary Majewski (0.1 IP, 1 BB) recorded the game's final out for his first save of the campaign.

Indians CF Andrew McCutchen tied his career-best hitting streak (12 games) and brought the potential winning run to the plate with an RBI single through the left side.

Louisville RHP Justin Lehr (6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) improved to 3-0 with the win, while Indianapolis RHP Jason Davis (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO) fell to 1-2 with the loss.

The Bats collected five extra-base hits on the night, including one homer and four doubles. Phillips, Barker and Rosales joined Bruce in the multi-hit column with two base knocks apiece.

Pearce (2-for-4, 1 R), Kata (2-for-4, 1 R) and Bowers (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) notched multi-hit performances for the Indians. Thompson also extended his on-base streak to 17 games with a 1-for-5 effort.

The game was delayed 32 minutes by rain in the bottom of the fifth.

The teams wrap up their four-game set on Friday at 7:15 p.m. RHP Homer Bailey is slated to start for Louisville, while RHP Ty Taubenheim is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.

The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m.

The first 4,000 fans on Friday receive a 2008 Indians Team Photo courtesy of Methodist Hospital and Sport Graphics. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
