Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville City FC has set open tryouts ahead of its 2017 season for Saturday, Dec. 17, granting players the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the club's technical staff.

Players 18 and older are eligible to compete at Collegiate Fields, 4515 Champions Trace Lane, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. A non-refundable $150 fee for each participant is due at the time of registration, which must be completed by Friday, Dec. 2. Cost includes two training shirts to be worn at the event.

Registration is open at LouCity.com/opentryouts.

The showcase last year produced defender Kyle Smith, a Cincinnati native who later signed with LouCity.

"I think with Kyle Smith coming through the open tryouts, it shows we're a football club that takes them very seriously," said coach James O'Connor. "I think everyone is vetted and given an opportunity. If you come in, approach it in the right manner, show up with the right attitude and show technique, we're going to give you the opportunity.

"I encourage everyone who's interested to get fit and give yourself a chance."

Named the USL's 2016 Midseason Rookie of the Year, Smith has racked up six assists and a goal while starting for the club at right back.

"I knew if I went out there and performed -- turned coach's head, basically -- that they would give me a serious shot," Smith said. "I feel like the team is always looking for new players who can help us toward the ultimate goal, which is a championship."

Participants will receive more tryout information from the club after registration closes. Contact LouCity's director of operations, Brandon Morris, at bmorris@louisvillecityfc.com with any questions.
