Losing Streak Reaches Franchise Record 12 Games

Louisville Bats News Release

ROCHESTER, NY - The Bats (60-71) found themselves on the wrong side of team history as they were unable to avoid the loss to the Red Wings (72-59). The team's 12th straight loss is the most in franchise history.

The Bats fell behind early in the first inning, when a misplayed fly ball in right field by Denis Phipps allowed Red Wings leadoff hitter Darin Mastroianni to reach third base.

Pitcher Chad Rogers retired the next hitter, but gave up a deep homer to Chris Parmelee, giving Rochester the 2-0 lead.

Phipps was originally penciled in to hit 4th, but left the game for a pinch-hitter in the top of the second inning. The reason Phipps exited the game is unknown.

The second inning didn't begin much better for Rogers and the Bats, as Rochester catcher Josmil Pinto lined a double into right field. The Red Wings took a 3-0 lead on a single by Ray Olmedo.

With the bases loaded, the deficit grew to 4-0 on a sacrifice fly by Antoan Richardson; a spectacular diving catch in the left-center field gap by Billy Hamilton saved further damage.

Rogers escaped third and fourth innings without allowing any runs, and looked to be settling down.

However, in the fifth he allowed a solo home run to Pinto, which pushed the Rochester lead to 5-0.

The Bats' starter departed after five innings allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out three.

Kanekoa Texiera pitched a scoreless inning of relief before yielding to Jose Arredondo. Arredondo allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, as Deibinson Romero doubled to give the Red Wings a commanding 7-0 lead.

For Rochester, starting pitcher Liam Hendriks was in control throughout. He didn't allow any walks, and just four hits through eight innings, in which he struck out eight.

An ineffective offense has been the theme during the long losing streak, as Louisville has averaged just two runs per game in that period.

The Bats have one game remaining on their road trip in Rochester, and will send RHP Greg Reynolds to the mound (11-3, 2.50) to face RHP P.J. Walters (5-3, 4.10) of the Red Wings. Game time is set for 1:05pm.
