SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings losing streak extends to three games as the Pensacola Ice Flyers put up seven unanswered goals to shutout the Mississippi RiverKings 7-0 on home ice Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Ice Flyers tallied four goals in the second period. Goal number one for the Ice Flyers came just 54 seconds into the second period as Jeremy Gates buried a Jordan Chong pass past Matthew Krahn to put the Ice Flyers up by one.. Nine minutes later Pensacola added to their one goal lead with a rebound goal scored by Ryan Salvis, assisted by Jordan Chong and Tyler Soehner. Pensacola extended their lead to three at the 13:48 mark when Ryan Raven netted another one for the Ice Flyers. At the 18:26 mark, John Dunbar found the back of the net as Pensacola went to the locker room up by four.
The third period saw the Ice Flyers add to their lead, but the RiverKings gave the crowd of 2,453 reasons to cheer with a pair of bouts. Jeremy Dawes and Kyle Atkins squared off after the whistle before Tyler Sheldrake battled former RiverKings Gabriel-Boutin-Gagnon.
Goaltender Matt Krahn suffered his second loss in his third straight game. Krahn stopped 34 of 27 shots on net while Pensacolas Ross MacKinnon stopped all 33 shots on goal.
