Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Davenport, IA - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (15-7, 53-37) swept a three-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits (12-8, 50-39) on a 4-3 win on Friday at Modern Woodmen Park. Reinaldo Lopez earned his fourth win of the season after six innings and no earned runs allowed. The win sends Bowling Green to 16 games above .500, a new high-water mark for the season.

During the fourth inning, the Hot Rods broke a scoreless tie and took the lead for good. Justin O'Conner led off with a walk. Tommy Coyle grounded a pitch to the mound, but Chris Devenski's throw drew Carlos Correa off the bag and left both runners safe. Next up was Tyler Goeddel, who tripled to the wall in left-center to score O'Conner and Coyle. Goeddel scored on a Leonardo Reginatto single for a 3-0 lead.

Quad Cities fought back but could not take the lead from Bowling Green. Hot Rod errors helped Quad Cities score two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the tying run was left in scoring position. Reinaldo Lopez followed with a 1-2-3 sixth inning to finish his third consecutive quality start.

Each team scored in a nail-biting seventh inning. Joey Rickard doubled and advanced to third base after a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Dunn. Following a strikeout, Rickard scored on a base hit from Andrew Toles to give Bowling Green a 4-2 lead. Quad Cities cut the difference to one in the bottom of the frame but left the bases loaded after Matt Spann struck out Rio Ruiz on three pitches.

Nick Saywer replaced Spann with one on and one out in the eighth inning and finished the game. Sawyer stranded the potential tying run at second base after a pop out and foul fly out in the eighth. In the ninth, Sawyer walked the leadoff hitter before retiring the next three batters to wrap up his fourth save of the season.

Next up, Bowling Green will head deeper into the Hawkeye State for a three-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The series opener is on Saturday at 5:05 PM CDT with Hot Rods RHP Jeff Ames (7-1, 1.96) pitching against RHP Tim Atherton (4-2, 2.59). Chris Kleinhans-Schulz will be on the call starting at 4:35 PM CDT on the Forever Communications Pregame Show on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM, 1340wbgn.com, and on the TuneIn Radio website and app).

The 2013 Hot Rods home schedule continues with a six-game homestand from July 17 to July 22, featuring IGA All-You-Can-Eat Wednesday, Thrifty Thursday, Coca-Cola Soft-Sided Cooler giveaway on Friday, H&R Agri-Power Ag Night Fireworks on a Faith and Family Night Saturday, and an appearance by Batman with a 1960's era Batmobile on Sunday.
