Loons Conclude Road Trip with Convincing Win

GENEVA, IL - Nick Buss drove in three runs and finished a homer shy of the cycle and the Great Lakes Loons concluded their longest road trip of the second half Monday afternoon with a 8-0 shutout over the Kane County Cougars.
The Loons struck for two runs in the first inning off Kane County starter Mathieu Leblanc-Poirier and never looked back. Dee Gordon singled, stole second, and scored on Buss' triple. Buss later scored on a wild pitch.
In the second, Buss drove in his second run on a single, scoring Travis Vetters. Gordon helped create the Loons' fourth run in the fourth inning with a walk and two stolen bases. He later scored on a single by Tony Delmonico.
The Loons were already ahead by four when they scored three in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Alfredo Silverio and Anthony Hatch, and RBI single by Matt Wallach and a sac fly by Buss.
Justin Miller (5-5) threw six shutout innings for the win. Luis Garcia and Cole St. Clair contributed to the shutout with three scoreless innings from the bullpen.
The Loons will enjoy a league-wide off day Tuesday, then return to Dow Diamond Wednesday for the start of a six-game homestand. On Wednesday the Loons take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 7:05pm. Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (1-4, 3.80 ERA) will start for the Loons against right-hander Trey Watten (4-7, 3.98). Tickets are available at Loons.com or 989-837-BALL.
