 Birmingham Barons

Lookouts Walk-Off with 5-4 Win

April 17, 2013 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Barons almost completed their second improbable late inning comeback in as many games, but Wednesday's attempt was not meant to be as the Barons fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts on a walk-off squeeze bunt in front of 2,198 fans at AT&T Park.

The Barons overcame late deficits of 2-1 in the eighth on a bases loaded walk to Brandon Short and 4-2 in the ninth on a two-run home run by Mike Earley. However, they were never able to claim the lead as Bobby Coyle ripped a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth and scored from third on a squeeze bunt by Miguel Rojas.

Lookouts outfielder Joc Pederson provided much of the offense for Chattanooga on the day, crushing a pair of two-run home runs, his league-leading fourth and fifth long balls of the season.

The win went to Eric Eadington (1-0, 9.64) despite allowing the tying home run to Earley in the ninth. The loss went to Salvador Sanchez (1-1, 3.38) who allowed three runs on three hits over 1.2 innings.

INF Marcus Semien extended his team-best hitting streak to 10 games with a fourth inning single and finished 1-for-3 in the losing effort.

With the loss the Barons fall to 8-5 on the season while the Lookouts improve to 5-8.

The Barons will look to even the series tomorrow night as LHP Scott Snodgress (2-0, 3.27) takes the hill against LHP Rob Rasmussen (0-2, 6.75). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CDT.
