Daytona Tortugas News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Shed Long's two-run blast to dead center field capped off a 7-6 victory for the Tortugas and a 6-5 homestand on Sunday evening in front of a nice crowd of 2,984 at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Trailing, 6-5, entering the bottom of the ninth, Blake Butler chopped his fourth single into left field off of St. Lucie reliever RHP Tyler Palsha to bring Long to the plate. Shed didn't miss a 2-0 fastball to hit his third home run of the year and bring in his second and third runs of the game.
The Tortugas trailed, 6-3, entering the bottom of the seventh frame. The Tortugas got a run back when Gavin LaValley reached on an infield single and subsequent throwing error that allowed Blake Butler to score all the way from first. Reydel Medina cut the lead to 6-5 in the eighth with a homer to the opposite field, his first homer since last August.
Daytona got on the board first. LaValley doubled with runners on the corners to score Long and put the Tortugas on the board. The lead increased to 2-0 when Narciso Crook grounded out to short, permitting Nick Senzel to score from third.
The fifth inning featured a combined three runs between the two clubs. Anthony Dimino's two-out, two-run double in the top of the inning got St. Lucie on the board and tied the game at two. Long's single in the bottom half scored Mitch Piatnik to put Daytona back in the lead, 3-2.
The Mets scored four runs on five hits in the top of the sixth off of Tortuga reliever RHP Sandy Lugo. The highlight of the inning was a two-run triple by Vinny Siena to elevate the Mets lead to 6-3.
