Lone Star Tenders Two Forwards for 2016-17

Lone Star Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Lone Star Brahmas are pleased to announce the addition of two forwards for the 2016-17 season. Jordan Timmons and Vladimir Studennikov recently signed a contract to play for the Brahmas if they join the North American Hockey League.

Both Timmons and Studennikov are leading scorers on their respective teams, play for top five teams in the T1EHL, and have each competed in the United States Hockey League (USHL) this year.

Timmons, 1998, is no stranger to Brahma coaches Dan Wildfong and Jeff Potter. They each had a chance to watch Timmons' talents in Chicago at the team's main camp and Potter has known of the newest Lone Star tender for years dating back to his days coaching in Pittsburgh.

"It feels great to be signed with the Brahmas," Timmons said. "I think what really convinced me to sign here is the reputation of the team and coaching staff that has shone interest in me since camp this summer. I went to camp not expecting anything but the coaches showed that they believed I could play at that level and have been monitoring my progress ever since."

The Bridgeville, Pennsylvania native has progressed in a big way. He leads the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite in goals (23) and points (36) through 26 games this season. His seven game winning goals are also the most in the league this season.

After this season, Timmons still has three years of junior hockey eligibility and he looks to continue his scoring touch in Texas.

"I believe I will be able to bring some scoring to the Brahmas next year and be able to be a big power forward that can make things happen on the ice," Timmons explained. "I'll be able to make some big hits and really put my whole effort forward to be the best player I can be."

What Timmons defines as his style of play fits perfectly with what the coaches are expecting of their players in Brahmaland.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound center has nine multi-point games this season and his play earned him a call-up to the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL in mid-December. Timmons has the potential to be a standout player at NYTEX if he continues his progression.

"Getting the opportunity to play some games in the USHL was a very good experience and it really gave me an idea of what it takes to play at the next level. The competition is incredible and the speed of the game is head and shoulders above anything I have played at so far so it opened my eyes to junior hockey," Timmons said.

Timmons followed that up by thanking the coaches and organization that helped him succeed. "Playing in the Pens Elite organization has really let me progress and transform into the player I am today."

Forward Vladimir Studennikov will join Timmons up front next year in the Lone Star State. He will be another big addition to the scoring department thanks to a 44-point performance this season with the Chicago Fury.

"I was really excited when I got an offer to tender with Lone Star," Studennikov said. "I felt like it was a good opportunity to play there."

Studennikov, who also goes by his nickname "Vova", played in hockey tournaments in Texas before and he said he is excited to come back.

"I really like Texas. I've been there (before) and then I did some research on Lone Star and I was pretty impressed with the team, commitments, and all that. They are doing really well this season, too, so I was excited to sign," Vova said.

The 5-11, 200-pound forward also had a chance to play in the USHL. He skated seven games for the Des Moines Buccaneers and registered seven shots on goal. The Russian left winger said he took the winter call-up experience as an opportunity to learn and show that he can compete at the next level.

"I liked it," Studennikov said. "(Playing in Des Moines) was very different to what I'm used to. Different hockey, different culture, different everything."

In 89 games with the Fury, Vova has 48 goals and 49 assists for 97 total points. For now, the point-per-game player is excited for the opportunity to play for the Brahmas and hopefully earn himself an NCAA Division I scholarship.

The two skaters join Julian Biondo (Oakland Jr. Grizzlies), Jordan Wishman (Omaha AAA U18), and Cole Weaver (Omaha AAA U18) as players who have already signed with the Brahmas for next season. Lone Star still has eight tenders to help build their 2016-17 roster.
