Lohin Catches Lightning's Eye

Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Ryan Lohin's scoring surge for the Waterloo Black Hawks lifted him into a tie for eighth in USHL point production during 2015/16, and Saturday he was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo.
Lohin's moment came with the 209th overall pick near the conclusion of the seventh round.
Before today, the Lightning had never drafted a player with ties to Waterloo, however earlier this week, the club resigned J.T. Brown to a two-year contract. In each of the last two seasons, Brown has helped the Lightning make deep runs into the Stanley Cup playoffs after joining the organization as a free agent in 2012.
Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley noted Lohin's brief but impactful tenure in Waterloo.
"Ryan and Sam McCormick added a substantial element when we were able to acquire them from the Madison Capitols at the trade deadline. For both of those players, having the experience of being in our late-season race and the intense playoff games we participated in will help them grow and develop."
Lohin stacked up seven goals and 11 assists in just 14 appearances for the Hawks. He and McCormick each finished with 57 points during the 2015/16 USHL regular season when considering their statistics from both Madison and Waterloo. During the 2016 Clark Cup playoffs, Lohin also delivered a goal and four assists in nine appearances.
Like fellow 2015/16 Black Hawk and former Capitol Garrett Metcalf, Lohin is committed to Massachusetts-Lowell.
Lohin was the second 2015/16 Waterloo skater selected during the seventh round Saturday, following defenseman Jake Ryczek, who was picked by the Chicago Blackhawks. Also during the seventh round, the New Jersey Devils took Jeremy Davies 192nd overall; Davies played briefly in Waterloo near the beginning of the 2014/15 regular season.
