December 11, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) - La Crosse Loggers
LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers added a pair of infielders and impact bats to their ever- growing 2013 roster today when team officials announced the signings of sophomore Michael Katz from William & Mary and sophomore Chris Keck from UCLA.
Katz was all-world for William & Mary during his freshman campaign in 2012, earning freshman all-American accolades from both the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) and Collegiate Baseball (Louisville Slugger) newspaper. The 6-3, 220 pound first baseman hit .316 with a team-best 10 homers and 58 RBI's over 212 at-bats for the Tribe. His .505 slugging percentage ranked second on the team and he ranked second in the Colonial Athletic Association in RBI's and fifth in home runs. Katz was also named to the All-CAA Rookie Team for 2012.
The defending Northwoods League champions will also welcome in another member of the UCLA Bruins baseball program with the arrival of left-handed hitting Chris Keck.
The 6-2, 190 pound infielder hit .293 over 28 games for the nationally ranked Bruins in 2012 along with totaling a .354 on-base percentage. The Pleasanton, Calif. Native was a key part of UCLA's freshman recruiting class a year ago that was tabbed as a top five class in the country by multiple publications. Keck was a three-year varsity letterwinnner at Amador High School (Calif.) and also appeared in the 2009 & 2011 Connie Mack World Series, having won the home run derby at the 2011 event. Keck was also a member of the 2010 Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Team.
UCLA head coach John Savage believes in Keck's ability to swing the bat. "Chris is one of the best hitters in Northern California," exclaimed Savage. "He has that rare combination of power with the ability to hit to all fields."
Katz, Keck and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2013 campaign in late May of 2013. The 2013
schedule is set to be released this Friday from the Northwoods League office. Season tickets are on
