London Lightning News Release

(ST. CATHARINES, Ontario) - Wednesday night at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines the London Lightning got past the Niagara River Lions 113-107.

The Lightning have now won four in a row, and bring their league best record to 7-2.

Warren Ward led the team with 26 points shooting 8-for-15 and going a perfect 7-7 from the foul line.

Stephen Maxwell came away with another double-double, finishing the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lightning shot 50 percent from the field and hit 81 percent of their free throws.

The bolts played from behind for the majority of the game, but the team came out on top after a fourth quarter shootout.

"We call them ugly wins and you get them on the road against a good team," said coach Kyle Julius. "We ran the same game plan the other night and we beat them by 20, but we didn't have the same energy and enthusiasm."

Julius said the victory is a result of the team's hard work at practice.

"We've worked really hard, we've concentrated on our conditioning, and if we can keep it close within the last five minutes, I think we're going to win."

London next heads to Windsor to face the Express Friday (Jan. 22) before returning home to face the A's on Saturday (Jan. 23) at Budweiser Gardens.

The team will be wearing custom camo printed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game with all proceeds going to the St Joseph's Health Care Foundation's Fund for Parkwood Veteran's Hospital. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available through Budweiser Gardens Box Office.
