August 19, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs have added left-handed reliever *Sean Burnett* to the roster as of Friday, August 19th. Burnett was acquired Friday by the Nationals from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for cash considerations. A corresponding move to the Chiefs' roster will be announced later today.

Burnett re-joins the Nationals, for whom he pitched from 2009 to 2012, along with this season's spring training. The left-hander, who has also pitched in the major leagues for the Pirates and Angels, sports a career 3.53 ERA over 370 games in eight Major-League seasons. Burnett's most successful seasons came with Washington, where he pitched to a 2.81 ERA over 245 games in those four years. He owned a 2.61 K/BB ratio with the Nationals and helped lead Washington to a division championship in 2012.

After being signed to a free-agent contract November 16th, Burnett opted out of his Washington deal on April 3rd at the conclusion of spring training. On April 10th, he signed with the Dodgers and was assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Burnett subsequently opted out of that deal on May 2nd to sign with the Braves. He was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett on May 3rd. On May 20th, Burnett exercised a third opt-out and eventually signed with the Twins May 23rd, where he pitched for the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings.

In 42 games between the three Triple-A clubs this year, Burnett pitched to a superb 1.91 ERA. In 42 and one-third innings, he has surrendered 31 hits, walked 14 and struck out 28.

The Chiefs play the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Friday in a 5:05 doubleheader, with a 7:05 Saturday game and 1:05 Sunday game to close out the series. Tickets are available and can be purchased at syracusechiefs.com, by calling 315-474-7833 or in person at the NBT Bank Stadium ticket office.
