Lewicki Sharp in Series Opener

August 2, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves offense fell silent on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field as they were shut out, 3-0, in the series opener to the Portland Sea Dogs.

Portland jumped ahead in the third against SeaWolves starter Artie Lewicki . Rainel Rosario led off with a single. Tzu-Wei Lin followed and grounded to short, on a Gustavo Nunez error, both runners would reach safely. With two outs, Mauricio Dubon doubled home Rosario for a 1-0 lead.

The Sea Dogs added to the lead in the sixth. Dubon led off with a double and he scored on a Ryan Court double for a 2-0 lead.

Portland added a final run against Tommy Shirley in the seventh. Rosario led off with a single and he moved into scoring position on a Lin bunt single. Aneury Tavarez sacrificed the runners into scoring position. Dubon followed with a groundout, scoring Rosario for a 3-0 lead.

Portland starter Teddy Stankiewicz (4-7) was brilliant as he tossed the first nine-inning complete game of his career. He faced one over the minimum in the game. Erie's lone hit was a Grayson Greiner base knock with one out in the sixth.

Lewicki (1-4) was the tough luck loser for Erie. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in six innings. It was the second straight quality start for Lewicki and both have resulted in losses.

The SeaWolves will look to bounce back against the Sea Dogs on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. RHP David Martinez (1-1, 4.12 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Jalen Beeks (2-2, 4.46 ERA).
