Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Cuban-born outfielder Leonys Martin (LEE-oh-nuhs mar-TEEN) has been assigned to the Round Rock Express, the Texas Rangers announced Saturday. Martin, 23, replaces Julio Borbon, who sustained an ankle injury in last night's game against the Memphis Redbirds. X-rays on Borbon's ankle were negative, but he was placed on the disabled list.

Infielder Guilder Rodriguez also was assigned to the Express from Double-A Frisco in lieu of Omar Quintanilla's departure. The Rangers purchased Quintanilla's contract prior to Friday night's game.

Martin, who defected from Cuba at the 2010 FISU World University Championships in Taiwan, was signed May 4 by the Rangers. He joined Frisco in mid-May; in 29 games with the RoughRiders, he hit .348 (39-for-112) with four home runs, 24 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and 10 stolen bases. Martin drew 15 walks against eight strikeouts and scored 24 runs. He also played four games with the Arizona League Rangers in late June.

Rodriguez, 28, has spent the entire season at Frisco. In 80 games, he hit .275 (78-for-284) with no home runs, 37 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and 15 stolen bases; he also scored 39 runs. Rodriguez, who was born in Venezuela, was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2001. He signed with the Rangers prior to the 2009 season. This is his second stint at the Triple-A level, playing 21 games with then-Rangers affiliate Oklahoma City last season.

Both players will be active on the Express roster for tonight's game against the Memphis Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at The Dell Diamond.
