Laredo Lemurs News Release

Laredo, TX - The Sioux Falls Canaries (28-39) three run second was enough to beat the Laredo Lemurs (35-32) 3-2 on Monday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Sioux Falls put together enough hits to bring home three runs in the second inning and that number stood to be enough for the Canaries. Brian Humphries started the action for the Birds by picking up a base hit; that would be followed by a Jason Repko walk to put runners at first and second. A Richard Stock groundout into a fielder's choice to erase Repko going to second left runners and first and third for the Canaries. Angel Chavez cashed in the two runners with a double that brought both Stock and Humphries home. Cody Bishop followed up with a single to put runners at first and third and R.J. Purecki singled to bring home Chavez, making it a three run frame for the Canaries.

The Lemurs runs would come in the seventh as Brian Peterson led off with a walk. Ryan Ortiz then followed with a single to put runners at first and second with no outs. Luis Pollorena was put in as a pinch runner for Peterson at second with Jarred Mederos coming to the plate. Mederos earned a walk to load the bases, then Ty Morrison struck out for the first out of the inning. D'Vontrey Richardson was up next and he hit a sac-fly to center that drove in the Lemurs first run of the game to make it 3-1 Canaries. Ortiz moved up to third and he would later score on a wild pitch with Chris Elder at the plate to make it 3-2 Canaries. On the night the Lemurs left 10 runners on base with seven of them left in scoring position.

Henry Garcia started the game for the Lemurs and took the loss, he moves to 3-5 on the year. Although Garcia took the loss, he pitched well going eight while giving up three runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. After he gave up the runs in the third, Garcia went on to retire 10 straight batters. He also had his longest outing of the year as he worked through eight innings. His previous high was seven innings, which came in his last start against Joplin.

The Lemurs will finish up the short three game home stand tomorrow night against Sioux Falls at 7:30pm. They will then start a six game road trip to Amarillo and Grand Prairie.
