Leland Earns NECBL Pitcher of the Week Honors for Second Time this Summer

MONTPELIER, Vt. - Mountaineers starting pitcher Sean Leland (Orland Park, Ill. / Louisville) was tabbed New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Pitcher of the Week for Week 8 of the 2015 season. The nod marks the second time this summer Leland has achieved this distinction, with the other coming in Week 5.

Vermont left-handed starter Casey Brown (Wenonah, N.J. / Central Connecticut State) and right-handed closer Sam Delaplane (San Jose, Calif. / Eastern Michigan) were also noted on the league's Weekly Honor Roll for their strong outing during Week 8.

Leland was brilliant in the Mountaineers' 3-0 win over Keene on Tuesday, July 28. He dealt eight and one-third scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. He finished with with six strikeouts and improved to 2-0 on the summer.

The next night, the Mountaineers returned home to blank the North Adams SteepleCats, 2-0, at Recreation Field. Brown tossed six and two-thirds innings, giving up just four hits and one walk. He struck out seven in the outing and moved to 4-1 this season.

Delaplane was stellar out of the pen for Vermont. He picked up one win and two saves in three relief appearances on the week. He pitched a combined three and two-thirds scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out three. Delaplane is 2-1 this summer and has solidified himself as one of the league's best late-inning arms, amassing nine saves.

The Mountaineers will next play on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. when they host the Valley Blue Sox for a meeting at Recreation Field. The game can be heard locally on CBS Sports 1240 WSKI and online at thevermontmountaineers.com.
