New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Metairie, LA - The New Orleans Zephyrs are pleased to announce the addition of local ownership as Walter Leger, Jr. has again obtained a stake in the group that owns the team, pending final approval from Major League and Minor League Baseball.

One of the original local owners when the team arrived in 1993, Leger became the "Voice of the Zephyrs" as the franchise's first public address announcer. He later served as team president in 1999, and since then as vice president and general counsel. No one has been with team longer than Leger.

"Zephyr Field and baseball in New Orleans is coming alive again," said Lou Schwechheimer, Zephyrs owner. "We owe a great deal to those who had the passion and vision to bring professional baseball back to Louisiana two decades ago."

"Nobody loves the Zephyrs as much as Walter Leger, Jr, and I am proud to say that Walter has joined our ownership group as we strive to return first-class affordable family entertainment to the southeast Louisiana community."

"I couldn't be more excited about the future of professional baseball in the New Orleans area," said Leger. "This team is part of the culture of our region. It is great to see new energy and enthusiasm as we rebuild this franchise. We expect to bring more local involvement in the future.

A graduate of Chalmette High School, Louisiana State University and Tulane School of Law, Leger is known for his involvement in major litigation all over the United States. He is past Chairman of the New Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce and past Co-Chairman of the MetroVision Economic Development Partnership. He also has coached youth basketball, baseball and football in St. Bernard Parish, where he has served as Chairman of the Economic Development Commission for nearly two decades.

Following Hurricane Katrina, he was appointed by two governors to positions of leadership in the Louisiana Recovery Authority. He continues to serve as chairman of the Louisiana Land Trust.
