Lexington Legends News Release

(CHARLESTON, W. Va.) Terrance Gore scored from first base on a single to left center field by Raul Mondesi in the eighth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie, and the Lexington Legends went on to a 4-2 win over the West Virginia Power Friday night.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Legends, who have a record of 11-5 in the second half of the season and lead the South Atlantic League Southern Division by two and one-half games over Augusta, Charleston and Greenville.

The Legends had taken a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings. Mark Donato and Fred Ford started the second inning with singles, putting runners at first and second. Michael Antonio followed with a single to left field, and after Donato had stopped at third, the ball got by left fielder Raul Fortunato for an error, allowing Donato to score.

In the third, Gore singled and then stole second base. It was his 40th steal of the season, second in the South Atlantic League behind Micah Johnson of Kannapolis, who has 61.

Raul Mondesi sacrificed Gore to third, from where he scored on a ground rule double by Mark Threlkeld.

The Power tied the game with two runs in the fifth. Fortunato led off with a single. Francisco Diaz grounded to third baseman Michael Antonio, who threw past first base. Fortunato tried for third, and when first baseman Threlkeld's throw was wide of third base, Fortunato scored and Diaz went to third. Diaz scored the tying run when Walker Gourley grounded out to shortstop. Gourley and Power manager Michael Ryan were ejected for arguing the out call at first base.

The Legends reclaimed the lead in the eighth. With one out, Gore walked, and Mondesi followed with a line drive hit to left center. Center fielder Barrett Barnes cut the ball off, but Gore kept running and scored the go-ahead run as Mondesi advanced to second on the throw home.

Mondesi went to third on Threlkeld's single and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Legends their final margin.

Ali Williams (5-4), who pitched the sixth and seventh innings, got the win. West Virginia reliever Bryton Trepagnier (3-3) was the losing pitcher. Mark Peterson worked the eighth and ninth for Lexington, and picked up his 10th save in 10 save opportunities.

Game three of the four-game series will be played Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
