Lexington Legends News Release

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends received another strong pitching performance from starter Miguel Almonte, and Adrian Morales drove in two runs as the Legends defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-1 Tuesday night.

Almonte (2-4) worked the first seven innings. He gave up one run on a solo homer by Kale Kiser in the sixth. Almonte allowed three hits, walked three batters and struck out two. In three starts in the month of May, Almonte has allowed two runs in 19 and two-thirds innings.

Clayton Schulz pitched the eighth and ninth innings and did not allow a baserunner.

The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. A walk to Michael Antonio and a double by Jin-Ho Shin produced a run, and Shin came home on a single by Adrian Morales.

Kiser's homer in the sixth made the score 2-1, but the Legends came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth on an infield hit by Humberto Arteaga and a double by Morales, who had hit a walk-off home run in the Legends 11-inning 2-1 victory Monday night.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ethan Chapman led off with a double, and when pitcher Stew Brase bobbled Raul Mondesi's sacrifice bunt, the Legends had runners at first and third. A wild pitch allowed Chapman to score, and Antonio's single brought Mondesi home, giving the Legends a 5-1 lead.

The Legends scored their final run in the eighth. Fred Ford led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball, and to third on a base hit by Terrence Gore. Chapman then put down a squeeze bunt that got by Brase as Ford scored.

The Legends have won the first two games of the series, which concludes Wednesday. Game time is 10:05 a.m. as the Legends hold their third and final Education Day game of 2013.
