Legends' Almonte Named to World Team for Futures Game

Miguel Almonte of the Lexington Legends has been named to the World team roster for baseball's All-Star Futures Game. The game, which features top minor league players, matches a United States team against the World. The game will be played at Citi Field in New York on Sunday, July 14 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Citi Field will be the site of Major League Baseball's All-Star game Tuesday, July 16.
Almonte, 20, a right-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic, has a record of 3-5 with a 3.42 earned run average in 14 starts for the Legends this season. In his most recent start Tuesday night at Hickory, he struck out 12 batters and walked none in seven and two-thirds innings. For the season, he is sixth in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts with 77 in 73 and two-thirds innings pitched.
"Miguel is an outstanding prospect with great potential, and he has earned this opportunity to be in the spotlight along with other top players," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "We look forward to watching him pitch for the Legends in the second half of the season. This is exciting news for everyone associated with the Lexington Legends."
