Leading Scorer Sean Backman Returns to Reign

Ontario, CA -The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), have signed 2015-16 leading scorer and veteran forward Sean Backman.
Backman, 30, led the Reign and set career-highs in goals (21), assists (34) and points (55) in 68 games last season and added four points (one goal, three assists) in 13 Calder Cup Playoff contests.
"This organization has treated me very well," said Backman. "I have the utmost respect for the Kings and the Reign and I'm glad I have another opportunity to play for the Reign this season. They gave me an opportunity I thought was fair and there was no reason not to take it."

Entering his seventh professional season and fourth with the Kings organization, the White Plains, New York, native holds 187 career AHL points (75 goals, 112 assists) in 415 games with Ontario, Manchester, Bridgeport and Texas.
"I come into camp wanting to do better and do more," Backman mentioned. "There is no sense setting bars lower than what you've done the previous season. You always want to do better. By me setting those individual bars for myself, it comes along with the team bars. We came up short last year and that wasn't a great feeling. Our goal is to win that Calder Cup trophy again."
In addition to his on-ice relationship with the region, Backman also has family roots planted in Southern California.
"I have my sister and brother-in-law (Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick) who live in Manhattan Beach and my fiancé is from that area as well and we are getting married in a couple weeks, so I'll be back out that way."
