LB Jason Catchings Seals Force Win over Amarillo

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force (8-2) earned its fourth straight win with a 59-51 win over the Amarillo Venom (6-4) on Saturday at the Civic Center.

The Force fell silent on offense in the first quarter and was held together by the team's defense only giving up seven points to the Venom. QB David Olson threw 3-for-6 in the first for 34 yards. Venom QB Nate Davis threw 1-for-6 in the first and recorded the team's first and only touchdown of the quarter.

Early in the second, the Venom attempted an on-side kick in hopes of retaining possession and increasing the team's lead. On a high-bounce, DB Dorrian Roberts picked off the attempt and rushed in back for a seven-yard touchdown return. The Venom answered back with two unanswered touchdowns before Olson slide a 20-yard pass to WR Clarence Anderson to drop the Amarillo lead to 14-27.

Wichita took possession after the intermission break and took advantage of the series resulting in a five-yard run by Olson for a touchdown. In the next series, DB Dontra' Matthews picked Davis's pass and ran it back for a touchdown. Good PAT's by K Jordan Drake on both attempts gave the Force the team's first lead of the game. Following that series, the Force and Venom traded scores six times with the lead exchanging in its equivalence.

The Force scored three times in the fourth including a 17-yard field goal by K Jordan Drake. In the final minute of play and Amarillo's second-to-last offensive series, LB Jason Catchings picked off Davis for a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown to seal the team's win.

The Force will return to INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday, May 28 for Salute to Service night sponsored by the Wild Turkey Federation against the Sioux City Bandits. The following week, the Force will host the Omaha Beef to close out the regular season on Saturday, June 4.
