Law Assigned Player With NFL Ties, Rodney Jones Brings Impressive Resume

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Law have been assigned offensive-defensive lineman Rodney Jones. Jones spent the 2002 training camp with the Chicago Bears. Rodney Jones, a 6’3”, 290-pound, lineman spent four year at the University of Alabama-Birmingham from 1998-2001. He had 102 tackles in his career including 21 tackles for loss. Jones bench presses more than 750 pounds.

“I am really excited to have a player like Rodney who has played in the NFL,” said Law head coach Scot Maynard. “This is a guy who is big, strong, fast and agile. He has been at the highest level and seen what it takes.”

The native of Birmingham, Alabama had a standout career at Vestavia Hills High School in suburban Birmingham. In three years as a starter he had 275 tackles and 39 sacks. He was an All-State selection as a senior.

“I am looking at it as a great opportunity,” said Rodney Jones. “God has blessed me with the ability to play football. I want to go out and enjoy myself and try to win a championship with the Law.”

Rodney Jones is an ordained Baptist minister and has preached with his grandfather, Doctor T.L. Albright Sr., at Birmingham Peace and Goodwill Baptist church. Jones has a son Devin, age three.

Players report for physicals on Wednesday and the first day of practice is set for Thursday. Practice will begin at 9 a.m. at the SAC on Thursday.

LAW DANCE TEAM TRYOUTS The Laredo Law will be holding tryouts for the dance team for the 2004 af2 season. Dance team tryouts will be held at the LEC on Wednesday, March 24th and Thursday, March 25th. Previous dancing experience preferred, but not required. Both nights the tryouts will begin at 6 p.m.
