Laredo Law News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Law have been assigned by the af2 league office fullback-linebacker Sedrick Brown. Brown played college football at Purdue University, with his career highlighted by a trip to the Rose Bowl. The Laredo Law 2004 af2 season begins April 3rd, with the home opener set for April 23rd at the LEC. Call the Law ticket office at (956)- 726-GAME (4263) or log onto www.laredolaw.com.

The 6’1” 243 pound fullback spent three years at Purdue and then transferred Texas State University at San Marcos for his senior season. He caught the eye of Law head coach Scot Maynard at the recent tryout camp on February 29th at the LEC.

“I found out about Sedrick thru a player I coached with the New York Dragons in the AFL,” said Maynard. “It was very exciting to have an athlete of Sedrick’s caliber at our tryout camp. He is a running back that knows how to block which is a huge plus in the af2 game.”

Brown grew up in Victoria, Texas and had a stellar career at Victoria High School. He rushed for 60 touchdowns and was a two time District MVP. In his 1997 senior season he rushed for 1,421 yards with 30 touchdowns and was selected third team all-state at the 5A level.

While at Purdue he helped protect record setting quarterback, and fellow Texan, Drew Brees. Brown had a 42 yard TD run against Washington in the 2001 Rose Bowl.

“I have been going to tryout camps and this one worked out well,” said Brown. “I am excited about the chance to get back into the game after a year and a half away. I am also excited about being part of the first pro football team in Laredo. The fans are really going to like the indoor game.”

Brown graduated from Purdue with a B.A. in Organizational Leadership in 2002. He transferred to Texas State University at San Marcos for his final season of football. He ran for 389 yards on 96 carries and had a touchdown in the 2002 campaign with the Bobcats.

“Sedrick is a very smart football player and very coachable,” said former Texas State University assistant coach Dave Schram. “He runs like a small back, catches like a receiver and blocks like a lineman.”

The Law begins training camp on March 17th.
