Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

Outfielder Ramon Laureano began his Arizona Fall League tenure by being named the circuit's first player of the week.

Laureano, who ended the regular season with Corpus Christi, has hit safely in four of his five assignments this fall. The 22-year-old is batting .444 with eight runs, two doubles, two triples and three RBIs for the Glendale Desert Dogs.

Laureano batted .319 with 28 doubles, seven triples, 15 home runs, 73 RBIs and 43 stolen bases in 116 games between the Hooks and High-A Lancaster. He and Yoan Moncada, MLB's No. 1 prospect, are the only minor leaguers to accrue 40 or more steals and 15-plus homers in 2016.

Catcher Garrett Stubbs and right-handed pitchers Rogelio Armenteros, Jacob Dorris, Francis Martes, and David Paulino are Hooks alums who have seen action with Glendale in the AFL's opening week.

Astros farmhand Jason Martin owns three hits (one double) and a walk in seven plate appearances for the Desert Dogs.

Martin, 21, posted a 20-20 season for Lancaster this year, batting .270 with 22 doubles, seven triples, 23 home runs, 75 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. The left-handed hitting outfielder played in a career-high 110 games for the JetHawks. Martin was selected by Houston in the eighth round of the 2013 draft out of Orange (CA) Lutheran High School.
