Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - The Jacksonville Suns (27-26, 57-66) defeated the Tennessee Smokies (20-32, 48-74) by a 7-1 score in the third game of the five-game series at Smokies Stadium on Friday night.

The Suns scored all seven of their runs in the past three innings, and the Suns have matched a season-high with four wins in a row, and have already claimed a series win by taking the first three games in Tennessee.

Suns reliever Tayron Guerrero (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Tennessee reliever Stephen Perakslis (0-4) took the loss, allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.

The Smokies scored an unearned run in the second inning off Suns starter Patrick Johnson when Daniel Lockhart scored David Freitas to give Tennessee a 1-0 lead. The lead remained until the top of the seventh with strong pitching from Smokies starter Daniel Wagner. In the top of the seventh, Patrick Mooney, on his 26th birthday, brought home Brian Anderson on a fielder's choice to tie the game at one.

The Suns took the lead in the top of the eighth when Anderson hit an RBI single off the pitcher Perakslis to give Jacksonville a 2-1 lead. Chris Curley followed with an RBI single, then Garrett Weber capped the three-run inning with a fielder's choice that brought in a run to put the lead at 4-1.

The Suns added three runs in the top of the ninth, first when Sharif Othman scored on a Nick Sarinidies wild pitch, then Alex Glenn capped the scoring with a two-run single to put the lead at 7-1, which would be the final.

Johnson took a no decision, working six innings where he allowed one unearned run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Tennessee native Matt Ramsey worked the ninth inning in scoreless fashion to preserve the 7-1 win.

The Suns will return to action in game four of the series on Saturday night against the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The Suns will start left-hander Matt Tracy (2-4, 4.97 ERA) against Tennessee right-hander Brad Markey (6-7, 3.24 ERA).
