Trenton Thunder News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Thunder trailed 3-0 entering the 9th inning, brought the winning run to the plate with two outs with the tying run in scoring position, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies came away with a 3-1 victory in Tuesday's series-opener at NYSEG Stadium.

Before a fine Tuesday night crowd of 3,914 the Rumble Ponies started Major League rehabbing Robert Gsellman who twirled three innings of scoreless baseball before handing it off to the bullpen for scoreless work from Casey Delgado and Tim Peterson.

Binghamton scored a pair of runs in the 3rd inning and a run in the 5th inning to take a 3-0 lead off your Thunder starting pitcher Brody Koerner. The Clemson product went six innings and allowed three runs while striking out four. In relief of Koerner, Andrew Schwaab fired a pair of scoreless innings to keep it just a three-run deficit heading to the 9th.

In the final inning, Nick Solak delivered a one-out base-hit to centerfield which was promptly followed by a five-pitch walk to Zack Zehner. Cory Burns had entered to begin the inning in back of Peterson's 1-2-3 8th inning which took just six pitches. With runners at first and second for your Thunder, Dante Bichette Jr. picked up his third hit of the game by depositing a ball down the left field line to score Solak for a 3-1 score. Zehner and Bichette Jr. then advanced up to third and second base on a wild pitch with two outs, but a pop out ended the game with the tying run in scoring position.

Solak and Jeff Hendrix were promoted to the Thunder prior to Tuesday's game and both finished 1-for-4 while picking up singles in their Double-A debuts.
