Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Peoria, Ill.- Josh Lansford's two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Peoria Chiefs to a 5-4 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts at O'Brien Field Thursday night. The loss forces Lansing to settle for a split of the four game set, as the Lugnuts finish the eight game road trip 5-3.

Trailing 4-3 in the eighth, Peoria's Jonathan Mota was able to draw a one out walk against Po-Hsuan Keng. Lansford then stepped to plate and drilled a home run to left field into the rainy night to put his team ahead 5-4.

The Lugnuts had taken the lead in the fourth inning by plating two runs following a brief rain delay. Brian Pettway's RBI double drove home Matt Lane from second base to put Lansing ahead 3-2. Chris Emanuele followed that up with a single to left that scored Pettway and extended the advantage to 4-2.

After another rain delay caused a stoppage in play, Peoria was able to put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth. With two men out and a runner at third, Yusuf Carter grounded a ball towards the shortstop Jonathan Diaz. Diaz slipped on the wet infield, allowing Russ Canzler to score from third and cut the lead to 4-3.

The teams traded two runs in the first inning. Joey Metropoulos delivered a two-run double for Lansing in the top half, but Peoria answered back with a Canzler two-run home run in the bottom portion of the frame.

Lansing (23-20) will now head home to begin a four game set with the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night. The first two games will take place at Oldsmobile Park, as Kyle Ginley (0-3, 6.47) takes the hill for the Lugnuts. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
