Tri-City Storm News Release

Urbandale, Ia. - The Tri-City Storm erupted for four goals in the third period, toppling the Des Moines Buccaneers, 6-3, Saturday at Buccaneer Arena. The win gives Tri-City 39 points, tied with Lincoln for the Western Conference lead.

Down, 3-2, five minutes into the third, the Storm's Mattias Goransson started the offensive surge, scoring five minutes into the third to answer an early-period tally by the Bucs.

Carson Meyer scored twice and had three points, all in the third, to give the Storm points in seven straight games, a season best. Jake Kielly held strong in net, winning his fourth straight decision with 37 saves.

The Storm trailed by a goal two times, but Goransson's goal at 5:46 of the third, assisted by John Marino and Carson Meyer, gave the Storm energy just 47 seconds after Justin Howell scored for the Bucs to take the lead.

Resurgent after tying at three, Andrew Peski shot the puck wide left at 8:03 of the third to Monte Graham at the left post. The Boston College commit potted his second of the season, both against Des Moines, to give the Storm a lead it would not surrender.

Just 2:47 later, Meyer shot the puck from the right circle past Jan Ruzicka, assisted by Nico Sturm, to give the Storm a 5-3 edge.

Ruzicka allowed five goals on 39 shots, the first time this season he has fallen to the Storm.

Meyer seized the opportunity to finish his three-point night by shooting his team-leading 16th goal into an empty cage with 2:07 left in the final period.

Des Moines' David Keefer started the scoring at 16:35 of the first on the man up, flipping the puck to the right post between Kielly's blocker and pads. Assists went to Chris Allemon and James Gobetz.

After a 16-shot first for the Storm, Joe Cipollone finally cracked Ruzicka, deflecting Goransson's left point shot just under the goalie. Walker Duehr took his 12th point of the season at 2:42 mark of the middle frame.

Wade Allison didn't wait long to score for the second straight game, receiving a left-post pass from Dan Labosky and stuffing at 12:22 of the middle period. Allison's 15th of the season gives him 13 goals in his last 15 games, best for the Storm among that stretch. Alex Limoges took the secondary assist, giving the center five assists and eight points since returning from injury ten games ago.

Labosky has one goal and eight assists in his last 10 games, extending to 18 points.

Justin Howell struck to tie at 18:37 of the second on a crease-front pass from Ken Hausinger, tying the game heading into the third.

Check out a pair of Storm home games next Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23 against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Friday is Sammy's Superheroes Night as the Storm hopes to cure pediatric cancer with Sammy's Superheroes Foundation. Tri-City will wear one-time only specialty jerseys.
