Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - Danny Perales singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Las Vegas to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Omaha Wednesday night in the second of four matchups at Cashman Field. The Storm Chasers dipped to 74-51 but did see their magic number to clinch a second straight division title reduced to three after Nashville lost at home to Tacoma.
Chris Woodward walked to open the decisive frame and advanced to third base on an errant pick-off attempt by Vin Mazzaro. Against a drawn-in infield and outfield, Perales chopped the next pitch past second baseman Johnny Giavotella to hand the Storm Chasers their first loss in six games on their current eight-game road swing.
Irving Falu started the contest with a single, advanced to second on a Giavotella ground out and came around to score on a base hit by Max Ramirez. The Chasers tallied in the first inning for a second straight night after posting runs in the second inning in each of the first four games of the trip. Las Vegas got the game even in the second on a lead off long ball by Ricardo Nanita, just the fourth homer allowed over 77 innings by Omaha starter Nate Adcock.
Ramirez put the visitors back in front in the fourth with a home run, his 14th of the season. From there, Las Vegas starter Brett Cecil allowed only one hit and did not permit another runner past second base. The southpaw lasted eight innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight and issuing a pair of free passes in a no-decision. Chad Beck earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed one hit.
Adcock was lifted with a runner at second and one out in the eighth and replaced by Mazzaro, who issued a two-out walk to Jack Cust that was followed by a Nanita base hit that delivered Kevin Howard with the tying run. Adcock was dented for two runs on eight hits while striking out four but was not involved in the decision.
The series continues Thursday night with Omaha left-hander Chris Dwyer taking the mound against Las Vegas, and former Omaha, right-hander Jesse Chavez. Coverage of the game gets underway at 8:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone Two, The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
