Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - Goals in opening and closing minutes of the first period helped the Lancer offense explode for a 6-2 victory over Team USA this afternoon.

Pierce Crawford (1g, 1a), scoring for the second time in two games with the Lancers, Coby Downs (1g, 2a), Michael Joyaux (2a), and Austin Alger (2a) all had multipoint nights for the home team. Alex Mehnert's goal in the third gave him points in two consecutive games after recording an assist last night.

For the third straight time Omaha found the scoresheet first. Early in the first Derek Hamelin found himself striding down the wing on a 2-on-1. Erlends Klavins, crashing the net, took a pass from Hamelin and tapped it into the upper corner giving the Lancers a 1-0 lead only 1:59 into the game. Pierce Crawford added his second goal of the preseason at 15:04 to give the Lancers a two-goal for the first time of the preseason.

With time winding down in the first frame Team USA cut the lead to one when Brady Tkachuk redirected the puck past Jacob Acton. The Team USA momentum would not last long. Zac Herrmann's blast from the point blew past Adam Scheel pushing the lead to 3-1. Coby Downs and Jakob Breault picked up their first goals of the preseason in the second period giving Omaha a 5-1 lead after forty minutes of play.

In the third Team USA cut the lead to three before Alex Mehnert capped the scoring giving the Lancers a four-goal lead once more, 6-2.

Jacob Acton made his second appearance of the preseason for the Lancers recording 27 saves on 29 shots in the win. Team USA used both available. Adam Scheel made 8 saves on 13 shots taking the loss while Dylan St. Cyr notched 11 saves on 12 shots.

Omaha is back in action next Thursday night hosting Lincoln in a preseason matchup. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm.
