Lancers Fall in Lincoln, 4-2

Lincoln, NE - An in-state battle took place on Saturday night as the Lancers faced off against the Lincoln Stars. These two teams are known for their bitter rivalry and it was the final time the Lancers and Stars would showdown at the Ice Box this regular season. Omaha has taken five wins in the series (5-1) with Lincoln this year. Lincoln got their first win against Omaha on February 17th, winning 4-2 at Ralston Arena. Vinnie Purpura got the green light to play between the pipes. The goaltender is ranked fifth in the USHL among all goalies. Purpura has played in 17 games with a record of 11-2-0-2 and has a 2.09 GAA and a .922 SV%.
It was scoreless until Dominick Mersh scored with thirty-four seconds left in the first period.
In the second period, Nick Perbix took the puck from the Omaha zone into the Lincoln zone to score on Schaedig. Omaha kept on the attack. On the penalty-kill, Noah Cates scored on the breakaway to get the Lancers ahead 2-1. Soon after, Wyatt Aamodt scored to tie it 2-2 going into the second intermission.
In the third period, Paul Cotter snuck the puck past Purpura. Omaha, on the power play, pulled Purpura for the extra attacker. The Lancers kept attacking Schaedig, but the Stars took the puck away and sent it down into the empty net. The Stars took the 4-2 win in Lincoln.
Purpura stopped 30 of the 33 Stars shots that he faced.
Omaha is now 31-14-2-1 with 65 points. Waterloo is now one point behind the Lancers in the standings.
