Ralston, NE - The Lancers faced off against the Tri-City Storm on Sunday evening. This was the 8th meeting between the two in-state teams. Omaha has the better record in the series against the Storm (4-2-0-1). The Lancers came into Sunday on a 7 game skid (0-5-0-2) looking to end the winless streak against the Storm. The Lancers took to the ice with a record of 31-15-2-3 with 67 points and sit at 4th place in the USHL West. Rookie Goaltender, Christian Sbaraglia got the nod to play between the pipes. Sbaraglia has started in 5 games prior to Sunday and with a record of 2-3-0-0. It was the first game the Penn State commit has started in since December 2nd vs Des Moines.
In the first period, Jesper Peltonen gave the Lancers their first goal. Suchy started the play as he held the puck on the hash mark. Peltonen was the last man in and as he entered the zone Suchy passed to Peltonen who then took a slapshot to score on Jake Barczewski. The Lancers held the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Blais Richartz tied up the game for Tri-City. Richartz beat Sbaraglia top shelf to tie the game 1-1.
After a scoreless third period, the game went to an extra frame. In the overtime period, Cole Gallant found the back of the net to give Omaha the 2-1 win. With tonight's win, Omaha has snapped their 7-game winless streak. The Lancers have also clinched their spot in the 2017-18 Clark Cup Playoffs.
Christian Sbaraglia stopped 24 of the 25 shots that he faced.
The Lancers improve to 32-16-2-3 with 69 points in the USHL Western Conference and now sit at third place.
