The Lancaster JetHawks raced out to a 12-2 lead after six innings and held on late to win 12-10 and complete a four-game sweep of the Stockton Ports on Monday night at The Hangar.
The win is a season-high sixth straight for the JetHawks (20-18), while the Ports (16-22) dropped their eighth consecutive game.
Peter Lambert (2-3) tossed six strong innings and struck out nine to earn the victory, his second in a row. The 20-year-old from San Dimas allowed two runs on six hits and walked two. He retired the final eight hitters he faced and fanned the final three. In his two starts against Stockton this season, Lambert has struck out 19 in 12 innings and surrendered only four runs.
Brendan Rodgers extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the fifth inning. He was 1-for-5 and scored two runs in the contest.
Down 1-0 entering the bottom of the second, the JetHawks tied the game with back-to-back two-out doubles by Wilson Soriano and Wes Rogers. Rogers finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored in just his second game hitting out of the leadoff spot in the batting order.
Stockton took a 2-1 lead on Chris Iriart 's solo home run in the top of the fourth, but the JetHawks scored four in the bottom half of the frame and took a lead they would not relinquish. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Mylz Jones and Scott Burcham.
The JetHawks opened the bottom of the fifth with five consecutive singles and scored three more runs. They added four more in the sixth to increase the lead to 12-2. Two came on a two-run double by Wes Rogers.
After Lambert departed, Stockton scored seven runs against the Lancaster bullpen in the seventh. Tyler Ramirez hit a two-run home run and Mikey White added a three-run shot. Brett Sidall led off the eighth inning with a home run for the Ports to bring them within two, but that 's as close as they would get.
Yonathan Daza drove in three runs for the JetHawks. Sam Hilliard went 2-for-4 with a double. Alexander Guillen threw a scoreless ninth inning to record his third save of the season.
Stockton starter Evan Manarino (2-2) suffered the loss. The left-hander, who had a 2.64 ERA entering the game, allowed eight runs on nine hits in four-plus innings of work. His ERA rose to 4.41.
The JetHawks hit the road for a seven-game trip with the first of three in Modesto on Tuesday night. Jesus Tinoco (1-0) will start for Lancaster against Nathan Bannister (2-2). In his last start, which also came against Modesto, Tinoco retired the first 20 batters he faced and allowed one hit in seven shutout innings to earn the win. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
