Cleveland Monsters News Release

Three third-period power play goals gave the Lake Erie Monsters (3-1-0-0) a 5-3 victory over the Oklahoma City Barons (2-2-0-0) in Oklahoma City Saturday night. Tyson Barrie had a goal and two assists to lead the Monsters, who had 12 different players register a point. Rookie Lake Erie goalie Sami Aittokallio won his second straight game in net.

Oklahoma City scored first when Curtis Hamilton took a feed at the bottom of the right circle from Taylor Fedun and one-timed the puck past the outstretched left pad of Aittokallio at 7:27 of the first period.

Barrie scored to tie the game at 1-1 with his third of the season when he followed a Monsters rush into the offensive zone at 17:22 of the first period. Byan Lerg sent a pass to the front of the net, and Barrie fired it by Barons netminder Olivier Roy with no hesitation. The goal gave Barrie a tally in three straight games, and was also assisted by David van der Gulik.

At 1:56 of the second period, the Monsters took a 2-1 lead when Paul Carey sent a pass to the front of the net for Andrew Agozzino on the rush, and Agozzino fired a puck upstairs on Roy to give the Monsters their first lead of the game. Luke Walker also assisted.

The Barons answered with a pair of goals to regain a one-goal lead heading into the second intermission. Justin Schultz tied the game at 4:17 of the second period, and Magnus Pajaarvi gave the Barons a 3-2 lead on a shot from the blue line through traffic at 10:03 of the second period.

Thomas Pock tied the score with his second goal of the season at 7:00 of the third period on a point shot with the Monsters on a two-man advantage. Barrie and Geoff Walker assisted on the goal that tied the score at 3-3.

Karl Stollery gave the Monsters a 4-3 lead with another power play goal on a shot from the right point along the ice at 11:53 of the third period; his first of the season. Bill Thomas and Olver assisted on the eventual game-winner.

Olver, with an assist from Brad Malone, iced the game with an empty-netter with 11 seconds left to give the Monsters a 5-3 lead. The goal was Olver's first of the season. Barrie also assisted.

Aittokallio stopped 27 of 30 shots and is 2-0-0 with the win. Roy stopped 22 of 26 shots and is 1-1-0 with the loss.

The Monsters are back in action against the Texas Stars Sunday evening at 6:00 PM Eastern. Hear all the action live on AM 1220 WHKW.
