Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES - Infielder Tommy La Stella will begin his rehabilitation assignment with the Iowa Cubs tonight, the Chicago Cubs announced. Chicago also selected the contract of right-hander Joel Peralta and optioned lefty Gerardo Conception to Iowa.

La Stella has been sidelined since June 9 after suffering a hamstring strain and has not seen game action in three weeks. He had been playing well for the Cubs this season, hitting .291 with two home runs and seven RBI in 79 at-bats. La Stella played nine games for Iowa in 2015 and posted a .333 average (11-for-33) with six RBI and one home run.

A 12-year major league veteran, Peralta began the season with Seattle and pitched to a 1-0 record with a 5.40 ERA through 26 games before getting released on June 4. He was signed by the Cubs on June 9 and assigned to Iowa. He amassed two saves and a 4.50 ERA (2ER/4.0IP) in his five appearances during his time with the I-Cubs.

Conception's contract was selected by Chicago on June 21 and he made his major league debut that same day. The 24-year-old pitched 2.1 innings over three games in his first stint with Chicago, finishing with a 3.86 ERA (1ER/2.1IP). Concepcion has appeared in 12 games for Iowa this season. He holds a 1-0 record with a 2.60 ERA (5ER/17.1IP).

Iowa will play a doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games against Oklahoma City tonight at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Game one is scheduled to begin at 4:35 p.m. CT. Follow the action on AM 940 or at www.iowacubs.com.
