LA Galaxy Season Preview

by OSC Special Edition
March 1, 2017 - Major League Soccer (MLS)

Founded in 1996, the LA Galaxy are based in Los Angeles California. They are a member of the Western Conference and play home games at the StubHub Center. LA Galaxy is currently managed by Curt Onalfo and owned by AEG. They are a highly decorated club having won the MLS cup five times and the Supporters Field Shield four times.

Under Coach Bruce Arena last season, LA Galaxy finished 3rd in the Western Conference and took the overall 6th position in the MLS. They went up to the semi-finals of the U.S Open Cup but were defeated by FC Dallas. The club qualified for the quarterfinals in the CONCACAF Champions league season 0f 2015-2016 but was knocked out by Santos Laguna.

In the MLS cup play-offs, they finished 3rd and went up to the semi finals before being knocked out by Colorado Rapids.

The acquisition of Ashley Cole had many pundits questioning his capability. But he proved them wrong when he brought style and class to Los Angeles. His great attacking techniques earned LA Galaxy a name in MLS. Cole however had his low moments when he had two of his penalties saved during the season.

Another player who made a name for the club last year was A.J. Delagaza. Delagaza who had a total of 28 games played and a total of 27 goals scored, was one of the best defenders LA Galaxy had in the year 2016. A transfer from Maryland, Delagaza was a force to reckon with. He wasn't a consistent fixture in the starting line but delivered every time he was called upon.

Defender Robbie Rogers played a total of 26 games and scored 24 goals making a big name for himself last year as well. However suffered an ankle injury that caused him to miss many of the season games.

Jelle Van Damme and Giovanni dos Santos were among the players named by MLS as 2016 MLS best XI. Giovanni joined LA last year and had 29 appearances while dos Santos had a total of 14 goals and12 assists in the regular season.

The Galaxy stood at 3rd place in the Western Conference with a total of 34 games played and 52 points accumulated. They won 12 games and lost 6.

The first kick off of the 2017 MLS regular season will be at StubHub Center against FC Dallas in what has been hailed as a must watch match. Curt Onalfo will have to work extra hard to have the club at the same level as it was with Bruce Arena. With a new acquisition Jermaine Jones and other major players expected to be signed soon, LA Galaxy might make it all the way.

The Las Vegas odds for LA Galaxy in the 2017 MLS championships are 11-2. They are at the top of the table of the Las Vegas odds. With season about to kick off and the odds in favor of LA Galaxy, there is no doubt that they will deliver.
