Galaxy midfielder re-signs after wrapping up seventh season in Major League Soccer
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy have re-signed midfielder Baggio Husidic, the club announced today. Husidic, 30, signs ahead of his fifth season with the Galaxy.
"Baggio has been a very reliable and dependable option for the Galaxy," said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. "He has a wealth of MLS experience and has been a leader on this team. We are excited he will continue to be on our roster."
With the Galaxy, Husidic has collected 97 appearances since signing with the club ahead of the team's MLS Cup-winning season in 2014. Including a three-year stint with Chicago Fire from 2009-11, he's racked up a total of 147 appearances during his time in MLS, tallying 14 goals and 17 assists along the way.
Husidic began his professional career with the Chicago Fire in 2009 after being selected in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft. Husidic joined the Galaxy officially on Nov. 14, 2013 from Swedish Superettan side Hammarby.
Originally born in Velika Kladusa, Bosnia (when it was still a part of the former Yugoslavia), Husidic was raised Libertyville, Ill and was a three-year starter at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
The Galaxy re-sign Husidic after re-signing defender Ashley Cole, acquiring Venezuelan National Team defender Rolf Feltscher, Norwegian defender Jorgen Skjelvik, acquiring the rights to former San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham, selecting Servando Carrasco in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
Husidic and the LA Galaxy will open the 2018 MLS Regular Season at StubHub Center on Sunday, March 4, at 7 p.m. PT against Portland Timbers.
