Kyle Burroughs Named Bridgeport's 2016-17 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year
March 30, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are proud to announce that Kyle Burroughs has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Bridgeport community during the 2016-17 season.
Burroughs, 21, has been one of the Sound Tigers' most active members in the community this season, volunteering his spare time on countless occasions. Each time the team holds a public appearance, Burroughs is typically one of the first to show up and the last out the door.
Throughout the 2016-17 campaign, Burroughs has volunteered for such appearances as a school visit to Coleytown Elementary in Westport and a visit to Yale/New Haven Children's Hospital. During those community efforts and others, Burroughs has visited with hundreds of children, their teachers and families, as well as taken pictures and autographs. He has also been a strong advocate to working hard at a young age in order to be successful later on.
Burroughs is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2016-17 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
