Indianapolis Indians News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - John Kuchno matched his longest outing of the year, but three late runs allowed Louisville to claim the season finale, 4-1, on Monday. The Bats finished second in the IL West with the result, while the Indians placed third.

The game snapped a run of three straight years in which the Bats defeated the Tribe on Labor Day in walkoff fashion.

Starters John Kuchno and Keury Mella (1-0) traded three scoreless innings before Louisville (71-73) pulled ahead with a run in the fourth. Seth Mejias-Brean drove in Steve Selsky with a base hit to right.

Indianapolis (70-74) answered with a score in the fifth. Newcomer Trace Tam Sing belted the first home run of his professional career to knot the game at one run apiece.

Kuchno was outstanding, matching his season high with six innings of work. With fatigue setting in, the right-hander put two men aboard before snagging a comebacker to start an inning-ending double play in the sixth.

The Bats took the lead in the seventh on an RBI knock from Tony Renda. Mejias-Brean tacked on another with an RBI triple in the eight h.

Josh Smith (0-2) was saddled with the loss while Kevin Shackelford picked up his eighth save. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
