August 7, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Dragons have announced that 8-year-old Chris Gonzalez of Springfield, Ohio has been selected as the grand prize winner of the Kroger Baseball Buddy program, and will spend an afternoon of fun with the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field on Friday, August 11th.
Gonzalez, who will be a third grader at Snyder Park Elementary, will be picked up at his home by the Dragons team bus along with 20 of his closest friends and family members. The bus will take him and his guests to Fifth Third Field at noon, where they will play a game of softball with several Dragons players, and have a visit from Dragons mascot Heater.
"This is the best thing that could have happened since his father's passing in December," said Priscilla Gonzalez, Chris' mother. "He is so excited. Thank you so much to Kroger and the Dragons."
This is the sixth season that Kroger has sponsored the Kroger Baseball Buddy program at their Miami Valley stores. Over 500 children have been Kroger Baseball Buddies over the last six seasons. To become a Kroger Baseball Buddy, kids ages seven through 14 can enter at Miami Valley Kroger stores for the chance to run onto Fifth Third Field with their favorite Dragons player, complete with a replica Dragons jersey and hat.
